Titus Uttankar inspires HDFC to 2-1 win

by Siddharth Yadav January 10, 2018

10th January 2018, Mumbai: In a crucial Group D encounter, besides Titus Uttankar’s heroics, HDFC showed resilience as they registered a narrow 2-1 win over Mumbai Port Trust (MBPT) in MDFA Super Division at Mumbai Football Arena, Andheri on Wednesday evening.

Throughout the game, HDFC was quite wasteful in front of the goal. The result could have been way beyond’s MBPT reach had HDFC converted their chances.

The likes of Titus Uttankar, Ramesh Singh and Jayesh Naik had a dreadful first-half. All the crosses from flanks were either collected or palmed away by MBPT’s Goalkeeper Ashish Yadav.

HDFC’s midfield completely dominated the match proceedings. MBPT were struggling to retain the ball possession but in the 4 in1st minute, against the run of play, Mohammad Salik broke the deadlock for MBPT with a delicate lob over HDFC’s goalkeeper. A goal out of nothing.

At the break, MBPT were 1-0 ahead. Things were going their way but they still had to climb a mountain as they were about to defend their solitary lead. HDFC, like in the first-half, dominated the play but this time they made the best out of their chances. In the 55th minutes, Titus Uttankar scored from close-range to level the score before setting up Ramesh Singh with a precise ball across the goal which gave HDFC a vital 2-1 lead in the 61st minute.

A hard-fought win by HDFC but their finishing today was poor which could have taken away the match from them. Nevertheless, an important win.
