Sellebrity Premier League – the latest for youth and Women footballers of Mumbai

Sellebity premier league

This new tournament from Sellebrity FC will aim to provide Youth and Women footballers of the city, a platform to play football and prepare themselves for the highest level.

In Mumbai, there are number of academies who keep organising regular tournaments for school and clubs for certain age. This is making sure that the future generation of footballers have started playing competitively early. One of the Mumbai’s top clubs Kenkre Football Club arranges four such tournaments every year with as many as 32 teams from around the city participating. Likewise PIFA also conduct such tournament popularly known as PIFA Football league (PFL) while SSE United carry out SSE Champions League.

Now another Mumbai club joins the line and is set to launch their own tournament which would aim at giving young players more competitive matches to showcase their skills. Sellebrity Football Academy, established in the year 2006, the Club was started with the aim of providing a launching pad for young footballing careers. With the Motto of “Football is our way of life”, the Club currently ply their trade in MDFA Super Division – the 2nd tier of Mumbai Football, while also fielding a youth side in MDFA Youth Leagues.

Sellebrity Premier League is launched with an aim to promote Women’s and Youth football along with giving these footballers, a platform to play football and prepare themselves for the highest level. The tournament will be hosted over two weekends with 16 teams divided across four groups participating in U16 League while the womens League had eight entries divided across two groups.

Over the last few years, there is no doubt that the interest in football has grown all over the country with even AIFF shifting its focus and concentrating more on grassroots football. While the board has started age group leagues for the likes of U13, U15, U18, the regional associations like WIFA too have come up with their own version of age group leagues. After starting the inter-district football tournament for Girls and boys, they also started a newly launched Baby league with a fine idea to play competitive matches at the primary age.

With the city clubs taking up responsibilities of giving opportunities and nurturing young footballers for the future, Mumbai football looks to be headed into the right direction.
