Scott D’Souza sends UBI into Nadkarni Cup semi-final

12th February 2018, Mumbai: In the third quarter-final of the ongoing RCF Nadkarni Cup, Elite Division side Union Bank of India (UBI) blanked Super Division side HDFC 1-0 to book their place in the semi-final where they will either meet Mumbai Strikers or Bank of India (BOI) on 15th February at RCF Ground, Chembur.

After a steady start, both the sides increased their intensity just as the match progressed. HDFC’s attack of Titus Uttankar, Siddesh Batavalkar, and Ramesh Singh started to threatened Union Bank of India’s backline. Meanwhile, on the other end, Scott D’Souza, Ranjeet Pandre, and Suraj Negi were causing problems to HDFC.

After missing numerous opportunities, the deadlock was finally broken when prolific striker Scott D’Souza scored a sublime goal past HDFC’s goalkeeper in the 32nd minute of the game. The goal boosted UBI’s morale who sat back and defended brilliantly to counter HDFC’s pressure.

Sandesh Puthran, Dhurvesh Nijap, and Vinodkumar Pandey defended pretty well and protected UBI’s goal with sheer commitment and grit which helped UBI to clinch a place in the 111th RCF Nadkarni Cup semi-finals. The first semi-final will be played between Air India and Indian Navy, which will be followed by Union Bank of India and Mumbai Strikers/Bank of India (BOI).
