Mumbai Strikers holds Kenkre FC 1-1
21st February 2018, Mumbai: After a fantastic performance in the recently concluded RCF Nadkarni Cup, Mumbai Strikers resumed their Elite Division campaign against Kenkre FC earlier today at Cooperage Stadium. Mumbai Strikers continued their fine form to secure a crucial point in a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Kenkre FC.
Just like the Strikers, Kenkre FC has underperformed this season. Prior to this game, Mumbai Strikers had only won once, whereas, Kenkre FC were still looking to win their first game of the season. With this 1-1 draw, nothing much has been changed in the Elite Division table.
Kenkre FC is rock bottom with only two points in eight games while Mumbai Strikers is two place above them with five points in seven games. One of the main cause of Mumbai Strikers and Kenkre FC’s downfall is majorly due to their poor finishing this season.
It was quite evident today too when both the sides missed genuine scoring opportunities. After a cagey first-half, the deadlock was broken just before the hour mark when Mumbai Strikers’ Akshay Devadiga’s excellent effort found the back of the net which had put them in front.
The backline of Arnold Mascarenhas, Manthan Mehta and Karan had a terrific game for Mumbai Strikers. But Kenkre FC never stopped fighting as they found the equalizer with fifteen minutes to go. Substitute Yash Mhatre, Kenkre’s top scorer this season, scored a fine goal to put things on level terms. In the end, it was a yet another entertaining match at Cooperage where both the outfits had to share the spoils.
