Mumbai District lifts Sub-Junior Girls title in Jalgaon

14th February 2018, Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Inter-District Sub-Junior Girls Championship which was held at Jalgaon successfully concluded on Wednesday evening. Mumbai District emerged as the winners after breezing past Pune District 4-0 in the final, courtesy of Mehek Lobo’s spectacular hat-trick.

Throughout the Championship, Mumbai District had always looked like a serious contender alongside Pune District. Ironically, both the districts had recorded a whopping 12-0 victory in the knockout stages which created an insane hype just before the final.

Mumbai’s lethal attack and more importantly, the strong defence turned out to be a crucial factor in their triumph. In the first twenty minutes, Pune defended pretty well to stop Mumbai’s attacking duo of Angeline Antony and Mehek Lobo. But in the 22nd minute, Mehek Lobo finally opened the scoring with a close-range finish.

The first goal changed the whole game as Mumbai dominated throughout the game with a superb attacking display. Mehek Lobo added two more goals to complete her hat-trick while Riya D’Souza scored the other goal which completed a sensational win for the girls from Mumbai.

For her hat-trick, Mehek Lobo was adjudged with the player of the match award. Mumbai’s Sai Sankhe won the best defender award, Neha Gamare (Mumbai) won the best goalkeeper award, Bhumika Mane won the player of the tournament award and Pune’s Swara Pathak received the top scorer award. Meanwhile, the hosts, Jalgaon won the fair-play award.
