MDFA Elite : ONGC and Western Railway snatch all three points

21st November 2018: Defending Champions ONGC and Western Railway outperformed Mumbai Customs and Central Railway respectively in MDFA Elite Division earlier today at the Western Railway Football Ground (Mahalaxmi).

Mumbai Customs gave a tough fight but ran out of gas in the last stages of the match as they suffered a 3-1 defeat, their second loss in a row, while Western Railway registered their first win of the season with a 4-0 victory over arch-rivals Central Railway.

ONGC vs Customs was an interesting encounter. In what was an end-to-end game, both the outfits were struggling in front of the goal for the majority of the match. It took 69-minutes to see the opening goal of the game when in-form forward Sunil Lohar found the back of the net with a well-timed finish.

But Customs hit back hard. In the 80th-minute, the old-guard of Customs, Hekmat Singh showed a striker instinct as he comfortably placed his effort past ONGC’s Goalkeeper Bappa Das.

The match was heading towards a draw but Nitesh Monde and Arif Shaikh scored two quick goals to turn the game on its head. A tired Customs side completely ran out of ideas as ONGC romped to their second win of the season.

The other game between Western Railway and Central Railway was a one-sided affair. Nevil Miranda’s own-goal gave Western Railway an early lead but Central Railway responded well took the game to Western’s half.

Poor finishing was bothering Central Railway for the whole first-half. That’s when Western stepped up and took the game beyond their rivals reach.

Charanjit Singh doubled the lead in the 49th minute before a quick-fire double from experienced striker Reuben D’Souza snatched away the game completely from Central Railway.
