Karim Shaikh discusses MDFA campaign and World Cup

As usual, the World Cup fever has lit up the whole nation. For the next one month, all we are going to read, hear and talk about is World Cup. That’s how much special it is. Footballcounter recently had a conversation with Central Railway’s striker Karim Shaikh regarding the same. He talked about his and Central Railway’s 2017-18 season, the upcoming season and the ongoing World Cup.

1. Which country are you supporting in the World Cup and why?

The first World Cup I saw was way back in 1994. I have always supported Brazil due to their style of play which has also inspired to be a skilful forward.

2. Which is your favourite World Cup moment?

My favourite World Cup moment has to be Ronaldinho’s free-kick against England in the 2002 World Cup. England was 1-0 up through Michael Owen’s goal and that’s when Ronaldinho stepped up.

3. Which is your saddest moment while following Brazil in the World Cup?

When Brazil lost to Germany in the previous World Cup. It was bad. I couldn’t believe what was going on.

4. On Central Railway’s return to Elite Division.

It’s a huge relief personally and I am really happy for my team and coaching staff as everyone knows our history. It feels great to be back in Elite Division and to compete with the best of the teams.

5. On his sensational impact as a super sub this season.

That was my role in the team this year as I came from a severe back injury after 8 months. Fortunately, I helped my team which is a great feeling. My role is still the same but I do love to create and assist.

6. Your take on the whole season?

We wanted to be the champions and win the league. We were unbeaten in the league phase and, in fact, lost just two games. But one reason I call this season successful is that we had the unity, passion and hunger to win.
