Karan Amin: It’s a dream come true to play in ISL

Ever since joining Indian Super League (ISL) side Jamshedpur FC, Mumbai-born Karan Amin has felt delighted and fortunate to be a part of the system which is quite difficult to get in. The former Mumbai FC youth player joined Jamshedpur FC last season and recently extended his contract till 2020, making his journey nothing short of a roller-coaster ride. In an exclusive interview with Footballcounter, the dynamic player discussed his journey from Mumbai to Jamshedpur, his next target, the support he got from his parents and coaches, and much more.

1. How has been your journey from playing in the local league to the Indian Super League (ISL)?

I have been very fortunate to have got an opportunity to play in the ISL. With football getting so popular in the last few years, there are players who are in the system but not in the team, it’s a pity, so yeah, I am very fortunate to experience this long journey. I have kept working hard and I think I dreamt of it day in and day out and it eventually happened so I know that dreams do come true.

It’s a big leap and not very easy to fathom or to sustain it. But I guess I sailed through and now I am just excited about the upcoming season.

2. To share the dressing room with some of the greats of Indian Football, how does it feel?

Like I said, it’s a dream come true. ISL is a dream platform for any football player in the country and to top that having stalwarts sharing the same dressing room is very special. There is so much to learn from them, their composure, their professionalism, it’s a great learning experience and each day there is something new to learn and absorb. I surely can’t ask more than this.

3. Now that you have extended the contract, what is your next target?

My next target is to be able to hone myself much more in the pre-season and then aim at getting maximum game time in the next edition of ISL. I want to be stronger, harder and faster. That’s the plan.

4. Who is behind your progress as a professional player and as well as a man?

Progress as a professional player is all the coaches that I have worked under. Each one of them has a massive contribution in shaping me or helping me grow professionally. My parents as well who have been so patient and supportive towards my ambitions. My friends who have been there during bad and good times. God, because that’s who I look up to. He has graced my life with opportunities and happiness.

5. You have a great following, specially in Mumbai. What is your message to the aspiring players?

Mumbai is a special place for me. I have lived here all my life and so the connection I have here is different. Besides, I have
always been a very social and outgoing person so I have many friends but yeah, it has been an all-time high after being on such a huge platform and getting recognised in the football field.

My message to the aspiring players would be to keep working hard, be disciplined and more importantly, to dream big as you never know when the opportunity knocks on your door! So always be prepared for that.
