Indian Navy to face Air India in Nadkarni Cup semi-final

11th February 2018, Mumbai: Former Elite Division side Indian Navy has progressed into the semi-final of RCF – Nadkarni Cup 2018 after thumping Super Division side Dena Bank 4-1 at RCF Ground, Chembur on Sunday evening. The multiple times Independence Day Cup winners will face the current holders of Elite Division – Air India on 14th February in a mouth-watering semi-final.

Indian Navy (Sarbjith Singh 3′ & 5′, Bipake Thapa 25′ and Raman Rai 65′) 4-1 Dena Bank (Akash Kamble own-goal 14′)

The Navy made a dream start. Right from the kick-off, they looked quite danger while attacking. It was in the 3rd minute when Sarbjith Singh opened the scoring with a delicate finish past Dena Bank’s goalkeeper. Just two minutes after opening the scoring, Sarbjith was on the scoresheet again. This time with a sublime effort which sailed past the goalkeeper into the back of the net.

Dena Bank was left bewildered as they were struggling to retain the ball possession for the major part of the match. In the 14th minute, a ray of hope pounced on Dena Bank when Navy’s Akash Kamble, unfortunately, scored an own-goal which cut short the deficit for the Bankers.

But things got worse from bad when Bipake Thapa made it 3-1 in the 25th minute which restored Navy’s two-goal lead. The fourth and final goal came in the 65th minute when Raman Rai got on the scoresheet which completed a resounding victory for Indian Navy.
