Hero Intercontinental Cup: Kenya announce squad, Wanyama ruled out injured

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama will not be part of the Kenya team for the Intercontinental Cup in India, as his club feels he needs to rest.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama will not be part of the Kenya team for the Intercontinental Cup in India, as his club feels he needs to rest.

After Chris Wood opted out from the New Zealand squad to India, another star attraction of the tournament – Victor Wanyama has been ruled out injured from the 23 man Kenya squad for the upcoming Hero Intercontinental Cup to be played in the first week of June in India.

The Inspirational captain has been struggling with injuries since last season, after being ruled out for 5 months due to serious knee injury, he has come back with series of starts for the club. Yet, Tottenham had written to the Kenya board making it clear that Wanyama needs rest so that he recovers fully from the injury [he picked up] while featuring for the club.

Newly-appointed head coach Sébastien Migne has been off to a mixed start with a 1-0 loss against Swaziland followed by a 1-0 win over Equatorial Guinea. After the two friendlies, Kenya is all set to feature in the upcoming Hero Intercontinental Cup alongside host India, Chinese Taipei and New Zealand, in preparation for the upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers later this year.
