Gritty Fr. Agnel comes from behind to defeat Mumbai Muslims in a thriller!

12th April’18, Mumbai : On Thursday afternoon a crucial tie took place between Mumbai Muslims and Father Agnel Gymkhana in Group A in Mumbai Football Arena as MDFA Super Division gradually approaches towards play-off stage.

Father Agnel Gymkhana showcased their absolute grit and determination to register a come-from-behind victory over Mumbai Muslims in a second-half blitz. Mumbai Musilms were up 1-0 till break owing to a strike by Bachu. But goals from Atharva Shinde, Abhinan Sebastine and Aayush Ajit Kumar powered the Navi Mumbai side to pick up their 3rd win.

It was almost an even contest from the beginning with Mumbai Muslims searching for an elusive win while Fr Agnel came into the match with an aim to continue the momentum they generated in their last match against Juhu Sparks; where they registered their second win in 5 matches, to make things look better for them. But they were in for a shock; when Mumbai Muslims took the lead that they were searching from the word go, at the stroke of the halftime. It was Bachu who claimed the accolades for giving his side the lead in the 45th minute with a clinical finish.

Second half saw the tempo being raised by Fr. Agnel as they looked to replicate the second-half burst that they showed in their Last match. Asif Khan the no. 7 of Fr Agnel got reprimanded with a yellow card in the 49th minute joining the likes of Aman Dubey who was shown the same in the 42nd minute.

In the 61st minute Atharva Shinde restored the parity for his side Fr. Agnel with a beautiful strike past the Mumbai Muslim’s custodian to dash their opposition’s dream of a win that has been eluding them in this campaign. 15 minutes later Abhinan Sebastine’s strike put the Navi Mumbai side on a course for another memorable win when he made it 2-1 with just 14 minutes to go.

Aayush Ajit Kumar who scored in Fr. Agnel’s last campaign, added the cherry to the topping when he made it 3-1 in the added injury time after the stipulated 90 minutes, to rub salt into the wounds of Mumbai Muslims, who needs to turn their campaign around in order to avoid relegation. Mumbai Muslims after their 4th loss in 5 matches stay put at the 8th spot with one point while Fr. Agnel leapfrogs their way to 5th position with 9 points from 6 matches.
