Forca Goa foundation launch Little Gaurs league

Little Gaurs League nourished in the presence of Brahmanand Sankhwalkar, Arjuna Awardee, Derrick Pereira, Technical Director, FC Goa, Melwin Pereira, Chairman of Kings School and Kenneth Fernandes - Grassroots Manager

Panjim, November 28th, 2018: Forca Goa Foundation launched its inaugural Little Gaurs League earlier this week at Kings School in south Goa. The league was officially kicked off by Goan football legend and Arjuna Awardee Brahmanand Sankhwalkar in the presence of Chief Guest Melwin Pereira, Chairman of Kings School and Derrick Pereira, Technical Director, FC Goa. The opening day saw over hundred fans turn up to support the little stars on the field.

The league is conducted in an open format wherein any individual, club, school or community can come in and register to participate in the league. This first of its kind initiative saw a great response with nine teams participating in the Under 10 category and six teams participating in the Under 8 category.

The league kicked off with Kings School taking on Childcare in the U10 category, followed by Kings School vs YFA in the U8 category. The matches were played at a high tempo with lots of enthusiasm and skill displayed by the young players.

Brahmanand Sankhwalkar, Arjuna Awardee and former Indian National team Captain said, “I’m very happy to see initiatives like this and I congratulate Forca Goa Foundation for putting together this league. This is the foundation to creating a strong football ecosystem and with more leagues like this we can hope to see a lot of good players develop from Goa”

Derrick Pereira, Technical Director, FC Goa added “It’s great to see parents come out and support their children at this age. With the right kind of support and opportunities our children can go a long way in their football careers”

The Little Gaurs League will run from November to March with matches being played every Saturday. One of the biggest barriers hampering football development in Goa is the lack of competitive football at the grassroots level. By conducting the league the Foundation hopes that young children get the opportunity to play football regularly in a professional environment and develop as better footballers. Football events like this also allow communities to come together and celebrate a sport that everyone loves.
