Five Maharashtra girls called up for Indian Sub Junior girls National Camp

Five WIFA girls have been selected for the national camp while the Maharashtra sub-junior girls Head coach Firmin D’souza and Goalkeeper coach Abdul Qadeer too have been awarded national duty.

Firmin D’Souza, who earlier this month led the Maharashtrasub-junior girl’s team to a quarter-final finish in the All India Sub junior girl’s championship has been awarded for his consistent performances with the state squad with a role of head coach for the Indian Sub Junior girls team.

Maharashtra’s impressive performances in the national championships, where they reached the quarter-finals of the tournament eventually losing to Kerala in Extra-time, didn’t go unnoticed as five girls have got a call-up for Sub junior national camps. Jahnvi Shetty, Anjali Barke, Mmehak Lobo, Priyanka Sujeesh, Sakshi Hiwale are the players who have received a call up for the national camps.

Maharashtra Goalkeeping coach Abdul Qadeer has also been roped in as for the national camp to head the Goalkeepers coaching.

Former India Goalkeeper and WIFA CEO Henry Menezes believe that WIFA’s work on the grassroot level is ultimately paying a dividend, “We are very motivated that our work on both grassroots & youth and coach education are getting recognition at the national level.”

Concurring to the idea of positive results of various WIFA initiatives, WIFA secretary, Souter Vaz stated “It shows that our strategic plan is working well and our districts associations are showing a keen interest in promoting & developing this beautiful game with opportunities for girls to plays this beautiful game”
