Bombay Muslims and Mumbai Warriors share spoils in Super Division

7th March 2018, Mumbai: On Wednesday evening, Bombay Muslims encountered Mumbai Warriors in MDFA Super Division clash at Mumbai Football Arena, Andheri. In what was a cagey match, a late goal by Faizan Thange helped Bombay Muslims to secure a 1-1 draw.

Both the outfits missed several opportunities. Had not for poor finishing, the result would have gone either way. Right from the kick-off, Mumbai Warriors dominated the match proceedings but they were not able to create clear-cut opportunities. The one they got was wasted by striker Yousuf Bankky.

On the other end, Bombay Muslims had more than 4-5 clear-cut chances to open the scoring but their killer instinct in front of goal was evidently missing. Striker Faizan Thange would have scored had not for Warriors’ goalkeeper double save.

Faizan and Atif Ansari combined pretty well upfront but once again the finishing touch was missing. At the stroke of half-time, Mumbai Warriors got a penalty when Pranay Bhandari was fouled inside the box. Just a minute earlier, Pranay had missed an open goal as he blasted his effort over the bar.

Striker Yousuf Bankky stepped up and calmly converted the penalty to give Warriors a solitary lead at the break. In the second half, Warriors were at the receiving end as Bombay Muslims controlled the match.

Yousuf could have sealed the victory had he converted his one-on-one opportunity when Pranay set him up with a delicate through ball. Bombay Muslims finally got the breakthrough when Faizan equalized with a superb finish.

The last fifteen minutes was all about Bombay Muslims. Kaushik, Mudassir Ansari, Rayyan and Junaid, pushed forward to snatch a late winner but Warriors’ backline stood strong to keep them at bay. In the end, both the sides had to share the spoils.
