BOI-CBI ends in a thriller, ONGC wins while Air India drops points

29th November 2018: A total of three MDFA Elite Division games were played on Thursday. Air India met Western Railway, Bank of India (BOI) faced Central Bank of India (CBI) in the Bankers Derby while ONGC encountered Union Bank of India (UBI).

The Bankers Derby – Bank of India (BOI) 3-3 Central Bank of India (CBI)

The two sides who are in hot form this season met in the Bankers Derby at the Mumbai Football Arena (Andheri). Central Bank of India had to come back thrice to snatch a crucial point and continue their unbeaten run.

After a shaky first-half where both the sides couldn’t take their chances, the game became lively in the second-half. BOI who has been quite dynamic so far broke the deadlock in the 54th minute.

Jagdish Madada got on the scoresheet with a delicate strike. CBI responded immediately through in-form forward Deepak Pal who made the most out of his brilliant first touch to level the score.

BOI kept pushing forward as they knew a win would keep the pressure on their rivals. In the 60th minute, Keval Pagdhare restored the parity with a wonderful goal to make it 2-1.

But CBI, once again, leveled the score just seven minutes later. Deepak Pal bagged his second goal of the day before Rishik Shetty gave BOI the lead for the third time after finding the back of the net in the 77th minute.

Just when BOI thought they have done enough to clinch all three points, CBI equalized for the third team to snatch a draw. It was Nimish Shetty’s goal which spoiled BOI’s party in a six-goal thriller.

Air India 1-1 Western Railway

Air India’s cagey form continues as they dropped points again. In an end-to-end game at Western Railway Ground (Mahalaxmi), Air India was held to a 1-1 draw against Western Railway.

The mighty Air India made a great start where they looked like a threatening side. Midfield maestro Vijith Shetty opened the scoring for Godfred Pereira’s side but soon after the goal, the team got complacent.

As the match progressed, Western Railway became more confident on the ball and it was in the 77th-minute when Saheb Singh scored the equalizing goal to deny Air India their first win of the season.

Other results: ONGC 2-0 Union Bank of India (UBI)
