Bank of India (BOI) makes it two wins in a row

4th January 2018, Mumbai: In a thrilling Group C encounter, Bank of India (BOI) produced a fine display to registered a narrow 3-2 victory against Income Tax in MDFA Super Division game at Mumbai Football Arena, Andheri, on Thursday evening. Income Tax almost snatched a draw but their poor finishing cost them three crucial points as they suffered their second consecutive loss.

Bank of India (BOI) came into the match on the back of a whopping 5-0 win against Soccer XI in their opening game, while Income Tax lost at the hands of Central Railway (HQ) 5-2 on 28th November. BOI continued their fine form to go top of Group C with two wins in as many games.

BOI started brilliantly as Aishwarya Barlekar opened the scoring in the 4th minute itself. His partner in crime Charles Fernandes played the ball across the goal which comfortably went past Income Tax’s goalkeeper. Barlekar had an empty goal in front of him who comprehensively placed the loose ball in the back of the net.

A few minutes later, talismanic midfielder Shailesh Jadhav played a perfect through ball to Barlekar who doubled BOI’s lead with a fine finish. After failing to convert most of their chances, Income Tax finally responded when Raghvan pulled a goal back after combining superbly with Marshal Francis.

But BOI had other plans. Four minutes later, Charles Fernandes restored BOI’s two-goal lead with a sweet left-footed strike past Income Tax goalkeeper. BOI went on the break with a 3-1 lead.

In the second-half, it was Income Tax players who were all over the field. They were determined to put pressure on BOI which paid off midway into the second-half. Marshal’s initial shot struck the post which fell into an onrushing Sanket Rane’s path who calmly scored on the rebound to cut short Bank of India’s lead by just one goal.

BOI somehow held their nerves in the last minutes of the match to register their second win in a row. Meanwhile, Income Tax was left wondering how they didn’t manage to get a point from this match.
