Air India edge closer to lift Elite Division title

7th April 2018, Mumbai: Defending Champions Air India edged closer to lift the MDFA Elite Division title after breezing past Karnataka Sports Association (KSA) 2-0 earlier today at Cooperage Stadium. A goal each from Steven Dias and Rinaldo Fernandes in the first-half proved enough as Air India recorded their tenth consecutive win in the Elite Division.

Air India is currently at the top of the table with 30 points in 10 games, five points more than ONGC (Oil & Natural Gas Corporation) who has two games in hand which include a match against Air India itself. On the other hand, Karnataka Sports Association (KSA) has played their last game of the season, finishing their campaign at the sixth spot.

KSA made a bright start but once again Air India’s experience and quick interchange of passes did the trick. But KSA held them brilliantly for the majority of the match which the rest of the teams this season has failed to do so. The deadlock was broken when in-form star midfielder Steven Dias scored a breath-taking goal, couple of yards from the half-way line.

This was Steven’s fourth goal for Air India this season. Steven’s goal was followed by Striker Rinaldo Fernandes’ glancing header as he doubled Air India’s lead by two goals. At the break, Air India led KSA 2-0.

Air India slowed down the game in the second-half and dictated the play. KSA pressed high but they were unable to regain the ball possession. At the final whistle, the score remained the same, 2-0 in favour of Air India as they get closer than ever to lift the Elite Division title, once again.
