Air India annihilates W. Railway 6-0

3rd March 2018, Mumbai: Air India’s demolishing display in the MDFA Elite Division continued after a crushing 6-0 triumph over Western Railway on Saturday evening at Cooperage Stadium. The win meant that Air India is yet to drop a single point this season, they have won all the seven games where they are currently sitting at the top of Elite Division with 21 points.

Their Opponent Western Railway came into the match on the back of a disappointing 2-2 draw against a resilient MS (Maharashtra State) Police. The Railways are currently third in the table with 18 points where they have suffered three losses in 11 matches.

After a bright start, Air India finally broke the deadlock in the 13th minute when former Kenkre FC’s youth midfielder Shubham Mane scored a sublime goal past Railway’s goalkeeper Jagroop Singh to score his first goal of the campaign. The goal boosted Air India’s confidence in front of the goal as they displayed an eye-pleasing attacking performance.

Ten minutes after opening the scoring, Sagar Khanvilkar doubled Air India’s lead with a fine strike which left Western Railway’s in agony. Their misery continued as they missed several opportunities to cut short the deficit which eventually came back to haunt them.

Striker Pratik Koli, Air India’s top scorer this season, scored two goals within the space of 15 minutes to put the defending champions 4-0 up. The encounter was well and truly finished even before the half-time. Aashish Kalge added the fifth goal at the stroke of half-time to continue the humiliation.

In the second-half, Air India slowed down. They soaked the pressure and took time to settle into the second-half. Considering their whopping five-goal lead, it was a clever decision to slow down the game. The sixth and final goal came in the 80th minute when Neil Gaikwad scored coming off the bench to complete an astounding victory.
