5 talking points as Mexico upset Germany

The defending Champion did everything they could in the second-half but that did not help them avoid a defeat against Mexico, who were destructive in the counter-attacks.

Joachin Low’s Germany flew to Russia with an ultimate aim to replicate their success of the 2014 edition. However, in their first game, Mexico defeated the Germans, courtesy of a goal from  Lozano in the 35th minute of the game.

Joachim Low’s Germany were not at their best and struggled to cope up with the pace of Mexican players. They struggled to act as a cohesive unit and committed too many flaws, that had an impact on the result.

The result will boost the Mexican side, and will leave Joachim Low scratching his heads. Low will have to build tactics that could reinvent Germany’s lost flair and creativity in the game.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the 5 talking points from Mexico vs Germany.

#5 German paid the price for their abominable defence

Before the start of this game, Germany’s defence was solid, sturdy, but on the pitch, it was a different story altogether. The Germans forgot the basic principles of football, surged upwards disregarding their roles at the back.

And, they paid for it. There were many situations in the game, when Mexican attackers outnumbered German defence. The situation was 2 vs 1, 3 vs 2, in favour of the Mexicans. Had not the German defence made those last-ditch interceptions, Germany would have paid the price for this slapdash performance.
