Super Division: MPT & Intelenet register wins

17th December 2017, Mumbai: Over two matches were played in MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) Super Division on Sunday afternoon, Mumbai Port Trust (MPT) met State Bank of India (SBI), while Intelenet Global locked horns against St. Paul’s at Goans Sports Association Ground, Churchgate.

Group D – Mumbai Port Trust (MPT) 2-0 State Bank of India (SBI)

In the first Super Division clash of the day, MPT faced a tricky SBI side in a Group D clash. A strong first-half display saw MPT registering a comfortable 2-0 victory over SBI to kick-start their Super Division campaign on a winning note.

After a great start, MPT had to wait until the 22nd minute to open the scoring. Rauni Nair saw a defensive lapse in SBI’s penalty area and brilliantly placed his effort in the back of the net which broke the deadlock. Two minutes later, Mumbai Port Trust doubled their lead when Nadeem Khan pounced on a loose ball to make the most out of it as he comfortably managed to beat SBI’s goalkeeper Vikas Gupta.

SBI did have numerous opportunities to find the back of the net but their lack of killer instinct in front of the goal came back to haunt them as they suffered a massive setback against a clinical MPT side.

Group B – Intelenet Global 2-1 St. Paul’s

In the second and last match of the day, in-form Intelenet Global locked horns against St. Paul’s in a Group B encounter. An injury-time goal by Bosco Pereira saw Intelenet Global registering their second win of the campaign with a 2-1 win over a strong St. Paul’s side.

Intelenet Global came into the match on the back of a whopping 6-0 win over West Zone United in their opening Super Division encounter. St. Paul’s almost held Intelenet but a late goal snatched away a crucial point from the former side.

After an eventful start, Navin Koli’s fantastic strike in the 33rd minute opened the scoring for Intelenet. St. Paul’s Sports Club responded well after dominating the rest of the first-half but they couldn’t manage to penetrate through Intelenet’s strong backline.

Their peer pressure and hard work finally paid off in the 63rd minute when Sahil Hate levelled the score for St. Paul’s. But there was a late twist in the tale as Bosco Pereira snatched a winner in the very last minute of injury time to give Intelenet all three points.
