Sunil Chhetri: Where has the scoring boots gone?

Sunil Chhetri’s stunner three months ago against the then AFC Cup defending champions Johar Darul Tazim was the last time the Indian captain found the net.
It’s been 1 AFC cup final, 6 ISL games and two I league matches that Sunil Chhetri been part of since his last goal. The Indian International and leading Goal scorer of our national team has failed to find the net ever since.

Chhetri’s struck a wonderful goal from outside the box
The 30 yard stunner at Kanteerava, three months ago in the second leg of AFC CUP semi-final had ensured a safe passage for the Bengaluru boys to final. But since then the Indian highest goal scorer has failed to find the net. While the frustration of missing goals in the Indian Super League was clearly visible and understandable considering he joined late and needed time to adjust. The crucial miss in the ISL -Semi final in a 1-on-1 situation might have hurt a bit, the trend seem to continue into the I-league now

Although it is not the time for the alarm bells to start ringing as Bengaluru FC, his current venture, sits comfortably at the top. But for a team that has always been around success, it will be hard to keep him in the playing eleven despite his stature with the amount of strike force the current I league champions has. There is no doubt that the blues captain has been instrumental in many games but in the last few games he has failed to live up to his expectation.
Blues already have plenty of strike force with even CK Vineeth, who has been in prolific goal scoring form this season being benched in the first game and came has substitute for the second in the last 15 minutes turning the tide for his team with the goal. Along with him the Blues have Udanta Singh, Daniel Lalhlimpuia and Seminlen Doungel in the striking department, while new foreign import Roby Norales has also registered his name in the score sheet in his very first game.
Chhetri needs to step up now, with a congested football calendar and with harder opponents for BFC ahead, the blues will need their captain to find his scoring boots and get back into what he does best i.e. Scoring goals
