Star Of Canara Emerged Champions at A.R. Kudroli Memorial Football Tournament
On 11th November 2017, the 12th Edition of Late Adv. A.R. Kudroli Memorial Football tournament which was organized by Karnataka Sporting Association saw Star Of Canara Sports Club emerging victorious against their arch-rivals Moghaveera SC by beating them 3-1. Moghaveera took the lead in the first-half in 15 minutes through Ketan Kalgutkar which was assisted by Prakyath Shetty, in the 25th minute a 40-yard diagonal cross from Glen Moraes found Nehal Shetty to give Star of Canara the equalizer.
Five minutes later Glen Moraes send a through ball to Ashton Dias for giving Star of Canara a well-deserved lead in the first half. Second half was more intense as Moghaveera came close to the equalizer but in the 55th minute Star of Canara scored their third goal with a free-kick from Sheldon Rego.
Star of Canara SC received a Winners Trophy from Chief Guest former International India Player Steven Dias, Maharashtra Captain Vijith Shetty, while Moghaveera were the Runners Up. Star of Canara SC also felicitated their 5 players who completed 20 years in the Karnataka League namely Glen Moraes, Melwin Vaz, Philip Dsouza, Vinay D’Silva & Kishore Shetty. Prathamesh Honavarkar (SC) was named the Best Goalkeeper, Kevin D’Silva (Moghaveera) was named best defender, Nehal Shetty (SOC) was named the best forward & Glen Moraes (SOC) was named Best Midfielder of the Tournament.
