PIFA shoot down Mumbai FC youngsters to make finals

Mumbai, February 19:  The experienced PIFA Colaba got the better of a young and talented Mumbai FC youngsters  6-5 via the penalty shootout tie-breaker in a thrilling semi-final match of the 110th RCF-Nadkarni Cup football tournament, organized by RCF Sports Club under the aegis of MDFA and played at the RCF Colony ground, Chembur. PIFA will clash with last year’s runners-up Air India in the final on Monday.

The Mumbai FC youngsters exhibited excellent ball skills and took the fight to their more senior opponents and after a couple of missed chances, they finally managed to take the lead when against the run of play Faiz aKhan slotted home in the 46th minute.

The seasoned PIFA outfit replied back strongly and restored parity through Chirag Walmiki’s strike in the 72nd minute. Thereafter, both sides failed to add another goal and the officials resorted to the tie-breaker to decides the outcome of the match.

In the penalty shootout duel, PIFA successfully scored from all their five attempts through Elvis Ozawara, Sushant Jadhav, Sanjan Kanar, Kalpesh Nijap and Pragnesh Solanki. The nervous Mumbai FC boys could only score four through Sohail Khatri, Patrick Mascarenhas, Umesh Perambra and Ankit Rawat

Results (semi-finals): PIFA Colaba SC 6 (Chirag Walmiki, Elvis Ozawara, Sushant Jadhav, Sanjan Kanar, Kalpesh Nijap, Pragnesh Solanki) beat Mumbai FC, Reserve Team 5 (Faiz Khan, Sohail Khatri, Patrick Mascarenhas, Umesh Perambra, Ankit Rawat) via the tie-breaker. Full-time 1-1.
