Naushad Moosa strike takes Maharaja XI into semis

Mumbai: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Maharaja XI (Air India) won their matches against Ordinance Factory and Karnatak Sporting Association (KSA) respectively to see themselves into semifinals of the Late Shri Vishwanath Anchan Memorial Veterans’ Football Tournament 2017, conducted by the KSA and played at their ground, Cross Maidan on Wednesday.

The third day of the KSA veterans football tournament, 2017 was an eventful day as teams looked to make it through to the next of the tournament. Here is how the action unfolded on Day 3:

CSR 2-0 TIGER FOUNDATION

The game was heading for the scoreless draw thanks to the wonderful efforts of the Tiger’s keeper Sukesh Shastri but CSR’s Kashif Jamal finally broke through the Tiger’s defense and weaved his magic as he scored two late goals to secure the win. CSR will now have to wait for the result of the match between Golden  Gunners and Tiger Foundation to see if they are through to the next round. As for Tiger Foundation, they are out of the tournament.

R.B.I. 1-0 Ordinance Factory

R.B.I. needed a win to guarantee their place in the next round and they did exactly what was needed.
They took the lead in the first half through Clement Travasco who slotted the ball past the Ordinance keeper. Ordinance tried to get back in the game and created a lot of chances but could not get a goal as the R.B.I defense held tight. This result means that R.B.I are through to the semifinals of the tournament and end of the road for Ordinance and PNB.

KSA 0-1 Maharaja XI

KSA needed a draw to go through to the next round and they were doing just that when they suffered a setback in the first half as their solid defender Nazereth Fernandes was at the end of nasty tackle and had to come off injured. The Maharajas grabbed this opportunity and finally broke the deadlock when former India international Godfred Pereira free-kick was not cleared properly by the KSA defence which gave the former India player, Naushad Moosa to score on the rebound for Maharaja XI. This result means that Maharaja XI booked a place in the semifinals as KSA and CSL are out of the tournament.
