I-League Under18: Kenkre FC end their campaign with a 0-0 draw against Mumbai FC

Mumbai FC

16th January 2017, Mumbai: Kenkre FC hosted Mumbai FC on Monday evening at Cooperage Stadium in the Hero I-League Under-18 Maharashtra Zone group-stage round. The final match of the season for Kenkre FC ended in a goalless draw, as the home team finished fourth in the table with eight points from eight matches.

It was a tight match overall, as both sides struggled to find a controlling stake in opposition territory. Both managers in-charge gave everything they had at their disposal to grind out a goal with the match reaching a 0-0 conclusion.

Mumbai FC went down to ten men for the final five or so odd minutes, when no.12 Roysten Castelino received a second yellow card in the 85th minute of the match. Castelino’S opposite number in Kenkre FC’s ranks was Arbaz Khan, who pulled off an excellent performance in defence to keep his side at arm’s length from any danger opposed by Mumbai FC

The match presented a hatful of occasions where either of the two sides could have or rather should have won the match. There was a lot of intensity in the play from sets of players, but all that the game lacked was a goal.

In terms of the final result, Kenkre FC were already out of the qualification spot after their defeat to Pune City FC away, earlier in January. Meanwhile, the road ahead for Mumbai FC is tough and chances of qualification look bleak; after they could only take a point from the match.

Mumbai FC are currently in third place with 10 points having played six matches, have close to no margin for error, and need maximum points from their final two matches: at home to DSK Shivajians and away at Pune City FC
