Khalid Jamil becomes highest paid Indian coach in history
Earlier today, I-League giants East Bengal unveiled Khalid Jamil as their new coach after the Former Mumbai FC coach signed a record-breaking 1.25 crores deal, tying him with Kolkata giants for the next two years. This deal also makes him the highest paid Indian coach in the history of India’s top tier league.
After getting sacked by Mumbai FC in 2016, Khalid led Aizawl FC to I-League victory which was nothing short of a fairy-tale as the North-East side were given a late entry in the I-league after being relegated.

During the media interaction, in Kolkata, Khalid Jamil said, “It is an honour to coach East Bengal. It is a club not only famous in Kolkata, but throughout India. I know there’s huge pressure and likely criticism in Kolkata, but if we play as a unit, Inshallah, we’ll be successful in getting positive results.”
The Red and Gold has already signed a number of players including Lalramchullova, Mahmoud Al-Amna and Brandon Vanlalremdika, all the three players who had played for Aizawl FC last season, are set to reunite with Khalid.
Jamil also added: “There is no confirmation on the foreigners except Mahmoud Al-Amna, who’s already been signed. I need to sit down with the officials and decide which foreign players would help the squad and the youngsters in development. The primary target is to give as many youth and new players a chance to perform in the Calcutta Football League as possible.”
