Kenkre FC down Southern Samity for maiden victory

Mumbai, April 23: Kenkre FC, Mumbai scored once in each half to record a comfortable 2-0 win against Southern Samity, Kolkata and register their first win in the Second Division I-League (final round) and played under floodlights at the Cooperage ground on Saturday night.

Deepak Tirkey fired the Mumbai team in front with a strike in the 43rd minute and Rohit Mirza found the target in the eighth minute of the second half to double Kenkre’s lead. It wasn’t that easy for Kenkre FC to beat the top team in the table, the formation 5-3-2 helped them to sustain with the defensive strategy, an experienced coach Ireno Vaz’s side did play according to the plan.

The story would have been different if Southern Samity could convert two penalties awarded to them in each half of the game. Kalu Ogba and Ajay Sign, Former East Bengal and Mohammedan sporting player had missed the scoring opportunity respectively which caused big disappointment.

Kenkre with five points from this their first win and two draws against Delhi United and Lonestar Kashim are now in the third position behind leaders NEROCA FC (8 points) and Southern Samity (7 points).

Kenkre FC will travel to play five away matches with the first one against NEROCA next Saturday, April 29.
