Kenkre FC prepares for its maiden national finals of 2nd division I league

Kenkre FC prepares itself for the National finals of I-league 2nd division for the first time, with a resurgent campaign after disappointing last year.
After an eventful group stage of 2nd division I-league, where Kenkre FC managed to garner 11 points courtesy of 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 close loss, Kenkre FC for the first time since joining the 2nd Division I league, has qualified for the final national rounds. Lonestar Kashmir, Delhi United, NEROCA, Southern Samity, Fateh Hyderabad are the other five teams that would compete with Kenkre FC for the top position that will propel them to I-League- India’s premier Football league.
Founded at the turn of the millennium back in 2000, Kenkre FC under the patronage of former footballer and football coach Sir Adib Kenkre along with club CEO Joshua Lewis have ensured a source for homegrown talented youngsters of Mumbai. Being one of the most popular football clubs in Mumbai, Kenkre FC is known for nurturing young players into skilful and mature players.

Kenkre FC is also known for their promising local youth leagues like Kenkre Champions League, Go Green Cup and Kenkre Community Cup aimed especially for young footballers. After being crowned Maha league Champions in 2010 for the first time in the club history, AIFF decided to grant the club a spot in I-League 2nd division Group stages. Since then the club has played in the second division seven times but barring the year 2015 when the club had a direct chance of promotion by finishing in top 2 thanks to a changed format, Kenkre had never managed to qualify past the group stages to the Final national rounds of 2nd division up until now.
This year, Kenkre have managed to turn tides and be noticed. Having finished in the second spot in the group C of the 2nd division just behind Fateh Hyderabad AFC and beating past Pride FC of Madhya Pradesh and a strong Ozone outfit of Bangalore, Kenkre has come out as a team to look out for in the final national rounds of 2nd division.
