Kenkre FC held to a thrilling 2-2 draw against Delhi United FC.

Mumbai: Delhi United FC held Mumbai’s local favourites Kenkre FC to a 2-2 draw in their opening match of the Second Division I-League final round at the Cooperage ground on Sunday, April 9th,2017.

With Mumbai FC battling relegation in the I-league all eyes were on Kenkre FC’s opening match of the 2nd Division I-league against Delhi United FC. With home advantage in their favour, the Kenkre boys moved the ball well throughout the park. With first 30 minutes being a bit dull the match came to life post half an hour of the first half. Kenkre FC took the lead through Nigerian striker Yao Bernard headed goal. A very good goal to put the home outfit in front. Delhi’s captain had a field day in the middle of the park being the vital cog in attack and defence. Add slide tackles to his game he was almost everywhere for his team. Kenkre FC went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

The second half was unpredictable as anything could happen. Delhi had to regroup and get back in this match. That’s exactly what Delhi United FC did. The visiting Delhi side came back into the game when their under-22 player, Pawan Kumar scored a header in the 52nd minute to put his team on level terms. But, the Kenkre outfit regained the lead when for the second time in the match through their prolific scorer Yao Bernard as made no mistake in a one on one situation.

However, for the second time in the match, the home side were unable to hang on to their lead as Delhi United got their second goal through Mashangva in the 68th minute and the teams settled for a draw and division of two points. Post the equaliser both teams were content with taking a point and did not make too many attacking moves.

Kenkre FC now face Neroca FC in their next match at Cooperage ground on Wednesday, 12th April 2017. The match will kickoff at 4pm IST.
