Kenkre FC geared up to make winning start

Mumbai, April 8: Kenkre FC, Mumbai are all geared up for the challenge against Delhi United FC from New Delhi in the opening match, of the Second Division I-League final round, to be played at the Cooperage ground, on Sunday evening.

The Kenkre FC coach Sanjay Singh has told his players that they should continue the good run of form as they had displayed during the preliminary phase of the league. Kenkre had won three of the six games, drew two and only lost the last match, which was inconsequential, since they had already qualified for the final phase of the competition.

Singh pointed out that the mood in the Kenkre camp is upbeat and the players are determined to start the final round on a winning note. “The players are upbeat and the team has trained well. Now with guidance from veteran Irenio Vaz, who is mentoring the boys, we are confident of a good showing and will start positively. A win would certainly give us the much-needed boost and the confidence for the remaining four games,” said Singh confidently after a light training session.

Ivory Coast striker Yao Bernard along with Yogesh Kadam will have to once again combine well with the midfield and convert the chances to score goals which would help to win the match. Midfielders Bilal Mohammad, Rajib Ghorui and Shunthan Pheiray had proved to be the ideal link in attack and defence.

The Kenkre defence looks to be in good hands and goalkeeper Melroy Fernandes has so far been outstanding. The Mumbai club in six matches has only conceded four goals, with three of them coming in the 2-3 loss to Ozone FC in the last game. Defenders Nitesh Aswani, Keita Boubacar from the Republic of Guinea, Assumption Soares and Sandeep Upadhyay have formed a solid line at the back and they will have to once again come good against the Delhi side.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 4.00 pm.

WED (12.04.17): VS NEROCA FC @ 4PM

TUE (18.04.17): VS LONESTAR KASHMIR @ 7.30PM
