Indian Football needs sustainable growth – Raymond Verheijen

Raymond Verheijen

Raymond Verheijen conducted a football periodisation workshop, which was held for top 30 football coaches from across the nation and the sub-continent in Mumbai.

Raymond Verheijen

This is the second visit for the former FC Barcelona consultant and Dutch national team assistant as he had visited the country back in 2013, when he conducted a similar workshop only for I-League coaches in New Delhi.

When asked about Indian Football, Raymond said “I had been here four years ago, and I see the difference, there definitely has been growth, but for India to break out on world stage, it will definitely take 10-15 years more.” He also added, “The growth of Indian Football shouldn’t been an issue, it should focus more on sustainable growth.”

The event was organised by Ultra Sports India, one of the upcoming sports management companies in the city. Curator of the event, Prashant Singh said, “Raymond is one of the world’s best coaches and we are lucky to have him conduct a workshop in our country. Coach Education in our country has seen a lot of growth in the past few years, and we at Ultra Sports India are happy to add to it, with nothing but the best. We will be holding another workshop in November with Raymond and bring more such brilliant coaches here.”

After the workshop ended, Raymond Verheijen, joined with Shaji Prabhakaran, Henry Menezes and Dinesh Nair to talk about Indian Football. Henry Menezes (CEO, WIFA), who was also present at the event said, “Coaching Education should be at the forefront of every state association’s agenda, and I hope Raymond teaches even more coaches about Periodisation and holds more regular workshops like this.”
