Himanshu Patil’s brace for ONGC sinks CBI

6th December 2017, Mumbai: The first game of ONGC’s MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) Elite Division 2017-18 campaign turned out to be a positive one as they registered a comprehensive 2-0 victory over Central Bank of India (CBI), courtesy of Himanshu Patil’s brace at the Cooperage Stadium on Wednesday evening.

This was Central Bank of India’s second defeat of the season after suffering a 2-1 loss at the hands of Air India last month while last season’s runner-up ONGC played their first game of the season. Last season’s key players like Himanshu, Kailash Patil, Enock Annan, Nitesh Monde, Sheldon Raghwan and Parminder Singh started for ONGC.

Both the outfits played an evenly contest for the majority of the first-half. Although ONGC had more opportunities to break the deadlock than CBI. The backline of CBI stayed firm and composed against an attack which had the likes of Enock Annan, Himanshu Patil and Kailash Patil.

CBI did have their chances too when Kuldeep Maschi and Kevin Patrik came close to score but with high-flying Sheldon Raghwan between the sticks for ONGC, they didn’t have to worry. The deadlock was finally broken at the stroke of half-time when prolific striker Himanshu Patil scored two goals in as many minutes to put ONGC 2-0 ahead.

Just like the first forty-minutes, in the second-half, both CBI and ONGC lacked the killer instinct in front of goal which proved out to be a dull second-half at Cooperage. In the end, it was Himanshu’s twin strikes in the first-half which proved to be decisive as ONGC kick-start their Elite Division journey with a comprehensive win.
