FCV Academy begins training, Enrolments are on

FCV International Football Academy has started their regular training sessions for young footballers at the Lions Municipal Sports Complex, Santacruztraining

Even if the Academy has just been around for around two months, it has already began making the right noises. Enrolments for footballers are now on and youngsters can be a part of it. Those interested can visit the facility from 3 pm to 5 pm on Monday, Wednesday or Friday.

The academy has made sure that boys play competitive friendly matches on Saturdays and would be looking to participate in private tournaments across the city. The Academy will also look forward to fielding a team in MDFA next season.

After two initial friendlies ended in loss the recent friendly match on 18th November 2017 was played against Hedgewar Boys FC where the Academy boys came out with a 2-0 win.

After a brief meeting with the boys the coach spent the entire week solely on concentrating on defending and in particular pressing high. As the boys had previously lost the 2 friendlies they played, it was very important to show promising signs in this match and apply what has been taught over the past week. The coach was aware of what the team’s priority was and the players knew what the coach is asking from them.

In a brief conversation with the coach he said, “I wasn’t sure what the net result of this (the practice sessions) would be to be honest and if we conceded less goals than previous games, then that would be a small victory in my mind.  But to their absolute credit the boys went out and put on a display of pressing that Pep Guardiola would have been proud of. They barely met the opposition out of their own half and when they resorted to going long, it played right into our hands with a commanding back 4 mopping up all that came their way.”

FCV academy defeated Hedgewar Boys FC with a comprehensive 2-0 win. First goal was from a long distance shot and the second one was nicely worked goals with a neat finish in the box.

But the coach was most impressed by the heart and desire to win every ball and counter attack when in possession. The coach also went onto say, “If we continue to progress in the same way as the past week and a half as gone then the future is bright for these boys.”
