FC Pune City score 7 past Kenkre FC to top Maharashtra Zone table

FC Pune City

10th January 2017, Pune F.C. Training Ground: FC Pune City ran out 7-0 winners against Kenkre FC in the Under-18 I-League 2016-17 Maharashtra Zone group-stage match.

Despite creating chances at ease, Pune City had to wait until the half-hour mark to find an opening goal. Nijwm Muchahary scored twice, opened his and Pune City’s account at the 28th-minute mark.

A brace – scored in the 35th and 38th minute – from Pune City’s no.11 Buanthunglun Samte in just three minutes put the home side three goals clear; with seven minutes of regulatory time still remaining in the first-half.

In the second-half, a further four goals followed for Pune City; courtesy of strikes from Sebastian Thangmuansang, Nijwm Muchahary and two goals from Dimple Bhagat.

Kenkre F.C. came out strongly in the second-half but soon faded out having failed to create any goal-bound opportunity. Overall, in what was a make or break match for the visitors – Kenkre FC failed to live up to expectations; striking out any real chance of qualification, this term.

Sebastian Thangmuansang’s goal came in the 59th minute, ending Kenkre FC’s hopes to get anything out of the match. In the aftermath of the fifth goal, Nijwm Muchahary completed his brace on 63 minutes.

Pune City was still left with firepower, in the final 20 minutes; Dimple Bhagat, in the span of five minutes, added a sixth and seventh goal for his side to round-up an 7-0 win for the hosts.

The home team recorded their fourth win in as many matches, eclipsing rivals DSK Shivajians (P4, W3, D1) by two points at the top of the table. Whereas visitors Kenkre F.C. find themselves, in a similar turmoil, as at the end of last season.
