Central Railway (HQ) and FC India register wins in Super Division

3rd December 2017, Mumbai: On Sunday, two MDFA – Mumbai District Football Association Super Division matches took place at Goans Sports Association Ground, Churchgate. In the first match, former Elite Division side Central Railway (HQ) faced Springfield FA while new side FC India (MFC) locked horns against Central Railway (MD).

Central Railways (HQ) 4-1 Springfield FA

The first match saw Central Railway continuing from where they had left off. After winning the first game 5-2 against Income Tax, the Railways produced a spectacular attacking display to register a thumping 4-1 victory against Springfield FA.

It took them just six minutes to open the scoring when Shahbaz Pathan placed his effort into the back of the net with a sublime goal. This was Shahbaz’s third goal of the ongoing Super Division campaign as he had bagged a brace against Income Tax in their previous game at Mumbai Football Arena, Andheri.

Exactly ten minutes later, attacking midfielder Sajandeep Singh doubled Central Railway’s lead with a ridiculous strike past Springfield FA’s goalkeeper. Springfield’s defence did respond well after conceding two early goals but their attack seemed toothless in front of an experienced Railways’ backline.

Just before the half-time, Manoj Yadav made it 3-0 and just like Shahbaz, Manoj had also scored against Income Tax in the previous match. The Railways had a silent second-half but Sajandeep Singh made sure to put the game beyond doubt when he doubled his tally after netting Central Railway’s fourth goal in the 55th minute.

Springfield FA found the back of the net when Prajwal Kotian scored in the injury-time which was a mere consolation goal. This was not the kind of result Springfield had expected but they have the rest of the season to sort out their problems and bounce back while Central Railways (HQ) is pretty sure enjoying their time in the Super Division as they hope to return in Elite Division next season.

Central Railway (MD) 0-1 FC India (MFC)

In the second game of the day, new side FC India (MFC) produced a determined performance to win their very first game with a narrow 1-0 victory against an experienced Central Railway (MD) side at Goans Sports Association Ground, Churchgate.

Both the sides were playing their opening game of the season with the hope of kick-starting their campaign on a positive note. Though Central Railway (MD) were favourites, it was a young and determined FC India side who ended up winning in style.

After an even contest in the first-half, the deadlock was broken in the 51st minute when FC India was awarded a penalty. A confident Siddhesh Shinde stepped up and comprehensively converted from the spot to score the opening goal of the match.

Siddhesh’s goal turned out to be the decisive goal as FC India (MFC) notched up a fine win to get going in the Super Division.
