Arafat Ansari’s brace guides Dena Bank to victory

27th November 2017, Mumbai: On the second day of the ongoing MDFA – Mumbai District Football Association Super Division campaign, former Elite Division side Dena Bank faced West Zone at Mumbai Football Arena on Monday evening.

Dena Bank hit top form to breeze past West Zone 3-2 to kick-start their new season with an important win. Dena Bank finished the game with 10 men when Usman Sayyed was shown marching orders by referee Louis Fernandes in the second-half.

Dena Bank was on the front foot right from the first whistle as they dominated the match proceedings and dictated the play with quick counter-attacking moves and incisive passes.

Denzil Mascarenhas broke the deadlock in the 36th-minute before former Kenkre FC youth player Arafat Ansari doubled Dena Bank’s lead just three minutes later with a sublime strike. The boys in white and green went into the break with a cushion 2-0 lead.

West Zone responded brilliantly in the second-half as they went all in to cut short the deficit. It was Hatim Kapasi who finally managed to break into Dena Bank’s defence and pulled one goal back for West Zone in the 55th minute.

But Arafat Ansari struck again past West Zone’s goalkeeper Parakshit Shetty to restored Dena Bank’s two-goal lead in the 68th minute. With time running out, Hatim Kapasi bagged his brace for West Zone in the 79th minute but it hardly made any difference as Dena Bank held on to clinch a hard-fought victory.
