An Academy for Goalkeepers

A specially designed course for goalkeepers will be soon launched in Mumbai with players having an option of getting Basic grassroots, intermediate or Advance trainings

The Academy will be a one of a kind in Mumbai – in fact to the whole of India, as the only Academy specifically running to promote, develop and uplift the standard of football Goalkeeping. Players will be trained under former International (India), Maharashtra State, National and seasoned goalkeepers who played for top clubs of India for more than a decades.

Former Orkay, Maharashtra and AIFF XI Goalkeeper, Shekhar Bangera, who initiated this academy said, “Our Vision is to impart the art of football goalkeeping to take players to the next level (top-level). All the trainees will be trained and coached by goalkeepers only.” The Academy will be managed by Jai Bharat FC – A KSA registered and affiliated club in Mumbai.

Under the guidance of experienced International player turned coaches both young and experienced goalkeepers have the option of learning and honing their skills. Players under the age groups of 10, 12 or 14 will be given Basic Grassroots training while for players of 15 or above will have two options in Intermediate training or advanced training.

This initiative of Academy from Shekhar Bangera will be guided alongside Mr. Bhaskar Malty (International GK) and Mr. Yusuf Ansari (International GK), who was also in the coaching staff of India U17 World Cup Team. The academy will aim at training specialised courses for Goalkeepers. Another former International and Tata SC coach Mr. Surendra Kumar will also head the coaching department of the Academy

The Coaching Panel also includes Vijay Swamy, former Air India goalkeeper with an experience of more than 15 years, Dhanraj More, FIFA Referee (Law of the Game), Raguveer Kanolkar former Central Railway, state and National Player, Purshottam Bangera, Orkay, State level player for Maharashtra.

The players will be trained in a year long course with twice a week schedule on weekends. The venue is in Mumbai at two centres in South Mumbai (Churchgate) and Santacruz.
