Air India makes it three wins in a row

11th December 2017, Mumbai: Defending Champions Air India moves at the top of the MDFA – Mumbai District Football Association Elite Division table after recording a hard-fought 4-0 victory over high-flying MS (Maharashtra State) Police at Cooperage Stadium earlier today.

Coming into the game, Air India knew it won’t be an easy task to overcome the Polices who has been very unpredictable this season. MS Police displayed a brilliant first-half performance where they were the better and dominant side. But the experience of playing in the topmost flight of Mumbai Football helped them to secure a memorable win to make it three wins in a row.

Air India struggled in the first-half as MS Police’s approached proved quite effective to keep their attack at bay for the major part of the first-half. Although it was Air India who against the run of play opened the scoring when Pramod Pandey’s sublime header from Aaron D’Costa’s cross broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute.

At the break, Air India was leading MS Police 1-0. The score could have been different had the Polices capitalize on their half-chances. The second-half was all about Air India as they dominated the majority of the half with a splendid display.

Two minutes into the second-half, Vijith Shetty doubled the lead with a fine strike past goalkeeper Aakash Vharamble. MS Police ran out of gas as a quick and pacy Air India side led by talismanic midfielder Vijith made the best use of their qualities to punish the Polices.

Elvis Rodrigues scored a fantastic goal in the 67th minute after a brilliant play by Shubham Mane and Aaron D’Costa. A couple of minutes later, MS Police’s Captain Bipin Jadhav was sent-off for a mistimed challenge. The game swiftly went beyond the doubt.

The final goal was scored in the injury-time when Sagar Kandalkar made it 4-0 to wrap up the game in a style which completed a resounding victory against a determined MS Police side.
