Western Railway edge past PIFA Colaba in MDFA Elite Division

9th December 2016: Western Railway met PIFA Colaba in the MDFA Elite Division clash at Cooperage Stadium, Churchgate on Friday evening. What proved out to be a tight match, Western Railway registered a 2-1 victory over PIFA Colaba.

Western Railway came into the match being the favourites but PIFA Colaba managed to put up a great fight to make the contest more open. PIFA Colaba is currently struggling this season as even their junior sides are finding it difficult to get back on track.

Saheb Singh who had a tremendous season last time back opened the scoring with a stunning free-kick which bamboozled straightaway past PIFA Colaba’s custodian Sagar Pathare in the 32nd minute. Saheb was also booked later for a committing a foul.

Western Railway went into the break with a solitary 1-0 lead. In the second half, Western Railway started from where the left as they dominated the match proceedings after controlling the game tempo.

Just when the match was headed towards a narrow win, Western Railway’s Ravikant Naidu scored a brilliant solo goal after a lethal counter-attack to make it 2-0 in the 84th minute.

PIFA Colaba did pull back a goal four minutes later when Prathamesh Kasare found Captain Tejas Raut who put his effort past Western Railway goalkeeper Grinto. The men in orange, though, didn’t manage to find the equalizer as Western Railway ran out as the winner.

Even though PIFA Colaba ended up as the losing side, if they emulate the grit and determination like they did in past, PIFA Colaba can definitely bounce back.
