Wellingdon Catholic Gymkhana down Shyadri Krida mandal

Eric Dowling opens the scoring for Wellingdon Gymkhana
Wellingdon Gymkhana and Shyadri Krida Mandal locked horns in the group ‘C’ encounter of 1st Division game here at Parel. Both the team looked equal and played some fantastic football, but it was Wellingdon Gymkhana who opened the scoring thru Eric Dowling who collected a wonderful pass and rolled the ball in the far post even before the keeper could attempt a save. Shyadri Krida Mandal fought every inch to attack the Gymkhana boys and had their penalty claim for a Wellingdon handball turned away by the refree. Shyadri boys were getting desperate to get back on level terms but the chances created could not give them the desired result. Wellingdon Gymkhana were disallowed a goal for offside, the goal initially stood but was ruled out after discussion among the referees. The deflection of Shyadri defender was ignored while ruling it off side. Rohan Suvarna had a bad outing as he failed to score in a open opportunity with only the keeper to beat, his shot going high over the bar. Rohan was again dissapointed as his header from close range also flew away without troubling the Wellingdon keeper. At half time Wellingdon with the advantage.
Play resumed as Shyadri Krida Mandal searched for an equalizer and found it in the 45th minute when Nishad Govindan wonderfully scooped the ball over Wellingdon goalkeeper Bradley. both the teams had their chances and equal share of scares but it was Wellingdon Gymkhana boys who emerged as the stronger side when in 60th minute Saumil Damor headed in from a beautiful cross to give Wellingdon Gymkhana a 2-1 lead. The game remained that way until the final whistle as Wellingdon Catholic Gymkhana brushed aside the strong challenge set by Shayadri Krida Mandal.
