We have got better as the season has progressed: Mateus Costa

Sporting Clube de Goa head to Mumbai with an aim to do the double over Mumbai FC, a team they beat 3-2 in Goa a fortnight ago. Mumbai FC have fell to yet another defeat after that, while Sporting too failed to built on that win when they went down to Mohun Bagan in Kolkata last week.

But Sporting Clube de Goa Head Coach believes the game between the two sides in Goa will have little bearing on the game on Saturday as both teams will look at it as a fresh encounter. “Of course that game in Goa will be at the back of our mind, but this is a new game and that victory will have no impact on this game. We will have to perform at our best level if we are to repeat that win over Mumbai FC,” Sporting Clube de Goa Head Coach Mateus Costa expressed to the media ahead of the game.

Costa paid tribute to Mumbai FC’s strong home record, but revealed that it doesn’t in any way alter their ambitions. “We have a great respect for Mumbai FC and their coach and what they have built here. I am also aware of how difficult it is for the visiting teams to play here. But we have our own ambitions which never change irrespective of the opponent,” Costa told the media ahead of the game.

After a shaky start, Sporting Clube de Goa have found form and Costa puts that down to time that the squad has managed to spend together on the pitch as well as on the training ground. “It was difficult at the start as many players had just returned from the ISL. Some players also had to leave for the South Asian games, so it was difficult. But after a few games we have found a good combination on the pitch and I feel now we are a better team than when we started the season,” divulged the Sporting Clube de Goa boss.

Sporting Clube de Goa who will be without midfielder Densil Theobald would be keen keep their rhythm going against a Mumbai FC side who have hit a bit of a low in recent times. But according to Sporting Coach Mateus Costa, the game will be a close one as he does’nt see much between the two sides at the moment.
