The MDFA ‘Nitu Mandke Invitation Cup 2016’ Day 1

The Nitu Mandke Invitation Cup sponsored by Colaba Sports League and organised by Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) at the St Xavier’s ground Parel is to take place on 25th and 26th January,2016
The teams participating in this knockout tournament include Mumbai FC U20, HDFC, Air India U-19, Century Rayon , Dadar XI, Income Tax, Young Boys, Bad Boys Club, ICL-A, Serco, Rhema SF and St Pauls
HDFC are the defending champions of the cup. Whereas Century Rayon finished runner-ups in the previous edition of the Cup.
25th January (Day 1)
The Opening Round of the Tournament witnessed four matches
Match 1: Dadar XI vs Income Tax
Income Tax emerged victorious over Dadar XI by 1-0 with number 11 Camilo Noronha on target for Income Tax in the 34th minute of the game
Match 2: Young Boys vs Bad Boys
Young Boys progressed to the next round with a 5-4 win on penalties. The score at Full Time was 0-0.
Match 3: ICL A vs Serco
ICL A defeated Serco by a solitary goal to advance into the next round of the tournament. Number 19 Fahim Munshi headed the only goal of the game which turned out to be the winner.
Match 4: St Pauls vs Rhema SF
Rhema SF and St Pauls played out a 0-0 draw at Full Time
Rhema SF emerged victorious on penalties by 3-1
HDFC , Air India U-19 , Mumbai FC U20 and Century Rayon all received byes in the first round
Hence after an exciting first day’s play Day 2 fixtures are lined up as follows :
- HDFC face Income Tax in the opening match of the day.
- Century Rayon are up next as they face Rhema SF
- Mumbai FC U20 take on ICL A in the third match
- The final match of the round features Air India U-19 taking on Young Boys.
Air India U-19 look favourites against Young Boys . Whereas Rhema SF will be looking forward to knockout Century Rayon after they lost to them in the MDFA league match. HDFC and Income Tax promises to be a cracker. Mumbai FC U20 look favourites to topple ICL A but know can be that damn sure considering it’s a knockout tournament.
Four teams from these will go into the semifinals and the last two will contest the final tomorrow i.e on 26th January,2016
