Serco thumps Young Boys in their Super Division clash

Serco were victorious over Young Boys by 3-1 in the Mumbai Football District Association (MDFA) Super Division game played at the St Xavier’s ground, Parel on Wednesday evening.

Vinay Bardhadkar’s goals on either side of the half and Gauraj Surve’s goal midway through the first half gave Serco a well-deserved win over Young Boys.

Serco started the brighter of the two sides playing a pressing game as they unsettled their opponents not allowing them to keep a hold of possession. And they got their reward at the very beginning when a lovely pass was collected by Vinay Bardhadkar who cut in from the right before slotting home a calm and composed finished.

Serco were quick to add to their tally when a wonderful pass through the middle found Gauraj Surve who rounded it off with a simple chip over the outward rushing keeper making it 2-0. The pressing game was giving all the results for Serco. But as the game progressed Young Boys grew into the game launching a few long balls forward trying to panic the Serco defense. And one glorious chance came midway through the first half when Young Boys number 14 who pulled it back for his teammate only to be saved by the Serco keeper and the rebound was cleared off the line.

Majority of Serco’s attacks were down the right hand side as they looked to split the defense and cut back the ball for a team mate. Young Boys finally found the net when a ball in the box was hit on the right side of the post which went in of Serco keeper Rohit Prasad.

At half-time Serco went in with a one goal advantage with the momentum on the side of Young Boys who looked the better side in the final 15 minutes of the first half.

Young Boys started the 2nd half brighter and were looking to equalise. Serco played a balanced game maintaining their shape and not allowing the opponents any shot on goal. Young Boys failed to capitalise from free-kicks. Just when it looked like they would score a lovely move down the left was finished off by Vinay Bardhadkar controlling the ball from a cross into the net curtailing any chance of a Young Boys come back. The game ended with a 3-1 win for Serco who did the job in the opening 15-20 minutes playing the pressing game. Although Young Boys dominated from the midway of the first half to the midway of second half Serco kept their nerves to grab the third goal and finish off the game.
