Salgaocar FC Look To Extend Their Winning Spree

By I-League Media
GOA: Salgaocar FC will be in the hunt for their second consecutive victory as they take on Mumbai FC at the Tilak Maidan tomorrow.
Salgaocar FC dished out a scintillating performance to lift themselves from the bottom of the Hero I-League on the turn of March, with a massive 3-1 win over Kingfisher East Bengal. A brace from Semboi Haokip and a Calvin Mbarga penalty was good enough for the Greens to secure all three points, albeit Ranti Martins netted one for the Red & Golds.
Santosh Kashyap acknowledged the fact that the win against Kingfisher East Bengal came on the right time, “The win against Kingfisher East Bengal was the reward for all the hard work we have put after the back-to-back losses.”
He further added, “I have seen Mumbai FC play, they are a fighting side. Our first target is to escape the relegation zone, let’s see how soon we can do that and then how far we can reach,” Kashyap said in today’s pre-match press conference.
Darryl Duffy, who’s leading the chart with nine goals so far, is expected to miss tomorrow’s tie owing to the groin injury that forced him to leave the ground within first ten minutes in their last match. The absence of the free-scoring Scott will be a massive disadvantage for Salgaocar, but they possess depth in their ranks to deal with it.
Salgaocar FC put in a fantastic defensive shift in their previous game and nicked in the opportunities when they came, to complete one of their best performances of the season.
The visitors, however, are on the back of a string of draws, with the latest coming against Aizawl FC in a 2-2 draw at the Cooperage Stadium on Wednesday.
Khalid Jamil didn’t hide his intentions to earn a point from the Tilak Maidan tomorrow, “We are playing away and when you play away you need to be very careful.” He stated that defenders have to be cautious and they can’t give way silly penalties as they did against the Flaming Oranje during their last visit to Goa, “When we played Sporting in Goa this season, we gave away two penalties in ten minutes. We have worked very hard this season and I will keep telling my players to be careful during the game as well.”
Mumbai FC have moved up into the sixth position having acquired 11 points from ten matches while Salgaocar FC have amassed 8 points playing one match less.
The match will kick off at 4:30 PM and it’ll be telecast live and exclusively on Ten Action.
