Rizvi Ceramics to face Godrej & Boyce in the MDFA 3rd division final
Rizvi Ceramics will meet Godrej & Boyce in the final of MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) 3rd Division on Friday evening, which will be played at St. Xavier’s Ground in Parel.
In the first semi-final, Godrej & Boyce edged out Skorost FC 5-4 in penalties after the match ended goalless in normal time. Both the outfit created numerous openings but couldn’t managed to put their chances in the back of the net.
Godrej is on a tremendous run so far, having defeated Indigo FC in the last minute of their quarter-final tie, they knew scoring past Skorost FC will be equally difficult. Their counterparts Skorost FC defended well and depended on their counter attacking abilities.
Godrej on the other end sat back and brilliantly marked out Skorost FC’s attackers. The match went into penalties after a cagey 0-0 affair, and Godrej just managed to sneak their place in the final with a 5-4 win.
Skorost FC’s Siddharth Rege saw his penalty saved which proved to be fatal for his side. Meanwhile, for Godrej Omkar Sawant, James Passanha, Vishrut Solanki, Sunil Ghogale and Rayomand Kasad all converted from the spot to book their side’s place in the final.
In the second semi-final, Mazhar Ali’s brace helped Rizvi Ceramics to register a 2-0 win over FC Mumbaikars ‘A’ to set up a clash against Godrej & Boyce in final on Friday.
The deadlock was broken in the 14th minute when Mazhar Ali scored a perfect header past FC Mumbaikars ‘A’ goalkeeper Adriel Dacosta to put Rizvi Ceramics in front.
Rizvi’s back-line didn’t allowed FC Mumbaikar any space to create openings and brilliantly man-marked their attackers to prevent any goals.
In the second half, Mazhar Ali scored again to put Rizvi Ceramics 2-0 up and put the tie to bed as FC Mumbaikars ‘A’ failed to make any sorts of comeback.
