Mumbai FC vs East Bengal Head to Head Report

Mumbai FC begin their home campaign in the 2016 I-League season with the visit of title favorites East Bengal on Sunday. The Red & Golds come into the game in top form having recorded a win over Sporting Club de Goa in their first encounter. But the home side will not be too worried about Biswajit Bhattacharya’s side as they themselves head into the game having lost just once in their last ten I-League clashes, which includes a 2-1 win over East Bengal in the corresponding fixture last season.
Mumbai FC vs East Bengal: Overall Head to Head Record
Mumbai FC and East Bengal have clashed with each other on twelve occasions and the record is as even as it could be. Both sides have won four games apiece with the remaining four ties ending on level terms.
The Mumbai outfit could certainly be proud of its head to head record against East Bengal, a club formulated eighty one years before Mumbai FC came into existence in 2006. Mumbai’s four wins against the Kolkata outfit haven’t been easy pickings though as all the four victories over East Bengal have come by one goal margins.
Head to Head Record at Mumbai FC’s home
East Bengal simply dread the visit to play Mumbai FC be it at the Balewadi stadium or at Cooperage. The Red & Golds have faced defeat in their last three away games to Mumbai FC, with the latest coming in May last year when Mumbai FC trounced East Bengal 2-1 at Cooperage. Mumbai FC have only lost once to East Bengal in six meetings on home soil, with the defeat dating back to November 2011, when East Bengal won 2-1.
But Mumbai FC have won three out of the remaining five games, while drawing twice.
Last 5 meetings between Mumbai FC and East Bengal
The last five meetings between the two sides make good reading for Mumbai FC who have lost just once, while winning twice. There are two draws in the last five games, both of which have come at the Salt Lake Stadium.
More importantly for Mumbai FC, they are unbeaten in their last four games against the Kolkata giants, a record which most of the teams in the I-League will envy.
Previous Game: Mumbai FC 2-1 East Bengal
The last meeti8ng between the two sides was at the end of last season when relegation feared Mumbai FC rose to the occasion to beat East Bengal 2-1 at Cooperage. A quick start from the hosts rocked East Bengal as they found themselves 2-0 down thanks to a 4th minute Paresh Shivalkar free kick and a 20th minute strike from Josimar. East Bengal gave themselves hope with a Ranti Martins goal on stroke of half time, but Mumbai FC held firm to clinch all three points and all but guarantee one more season in the top flight of Indian Football.
