Mumbai FC Player Ratings against Bengaluru FC

Mumbai FC made a great statement of intent as they trounced Bengaluru FC 2-0 at Cooperage on Wednesday evening. Early strikes from Arata Izumi and Min Chol Son saw Khalid Jamil’s men seize control of the game. Bengaluru tried getting back into the game, but a relentless performance from Mumbai FC meant Bengaluru succumbed to their first loss of the season.

We rate the performances of the Mumbai FC players during the game

No 13: Pawan Kumar ( GK): 7/10
Made some last ditch saves which proved pivotal in the outcome of the game. His presence in front of goal once again was immense as Bengaluru could not get that all important goal needed to make a comeback. Showed his former club what they let go.
No 27: Clyde Fernandes( LB): 7.5/10
His work rate was immense as he bossed the left flank. Bengaluru found it difficult to construct their attacks down the left. Made a few errors in the second half but they were covered by his team mates.
No 6: Minchol Son: 9/10
Proved to be the heart beat of this Mumbai defense yet again. His co-ordination with centre back partner Pratik seems to blossom every match. His interceptions took the sting out of Bengaluru attacks.Protected his team mates well.Scored a freak goal which gave the home team a 2 goal cushion. Was judged the hero of the match. Son is proving to be a real top class signing.
No 2: Pratik Chowdhary(CB): 8.5
Hardly put a foot wrong. He seems to be very confident going for those aerial balls. Understanding with Son was incredible. Cleared the balls crossed into the six yard area. Was a major presence in clearing Bengaluru setpieces
No 3: Ashutosh Mehta(RB): 6.5/10
Was exposed at times. Would have proved costly if not for Taisuke and Pratik covering up. Eventually was subbed off as a result of injury. But it was Ashutosh’s neat cross that led to the first goal.
No 11: Taisuke Matsugae( MID): 8/10
Mumbai’s captain leading from the front yet again. His tireless running coupled with sliding tackles recovered a lot of possession for the home team. Taisuke was chasing lost causes and was able to get good crosses into the box at times. Yet another impressive show earns him an eight out of ten.

No 7: Jayesh Rane(MID):7.5/10
Improved performance compared to the last game. Jayesh’s ability to spot his team mates was brilliant as his crosses just needed finishing touches. Increased the tempo of the game. At times was bullied of the ball but recovered well. The youngster put in a real shift and was lauded by his manager after the game.

No 21: Arata Izumi (8.5/10)
Arata seems to have settled in this Mumbai FC squad. Arata scored the all important first even though it was deflected. His ability to spot the passes for the forward line made him lethal. Made some lovely chances linking up with Rane and Ryuki. This is exactly what Mumbai FC missed last season, a midfield carrier that can turn defence into attack with some lovely ball play.

No 10: Eric Brown(MID) 7/10
Brown’s physical presence coupled with pace proved vital in the 2nd half when Mumbai’s backs were against the wall in the second half and he protected the left flank well. His contribution in the attacking side diminished in the second half, but Brown made it up with his work rate.

No 9: Ryuki Kozawa: 8/10
Kozawa along with Sushil Singh were a constant menace in the Bengaluru defence and executed his manager’s tactics to perfection by preventing the Bengaluru centre back to play out of the defence. Combined well with Singh, but should have scored on one occasion.

No 14: Sushil Kumar Singh: 7.5/10

Sushil’s ability to track back gives him extra edge over the forwards. Should have put Mumbai 3-0 up at the break, but his hold up play was excellent. Worked his socks off again.
No 25: Shrikant Ramu: 7.5/10
Was brought on for the injured Ashutosh Menta. Conceded needless fouls and was booked. Played without fear as he kept the Bengaluru attack at bay down the right. Although he seemed to be exposed at times.
