MDFA Super Division Standings
The Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) Super Division is the second-tier of the Mumbai League, currently comprising of 32 teams, divided across three groups (A, B, C) for its on-going 2016-17 season. Now in its second round of matches, we look at, how the teams began their season and what is in store for everyone, as the tables begin to take shape. We will bring to you a detailed summary of Super Division all Group matches till 05-November-2016.
Group ‘A’
Group A of the MDFA Super Division comprises of 11 teams: Chedda Nagar Prodigies, St. Sebastian F.C, H.D.F.C, Young Boys, Mumbai Warriors, Juhu Sparks, Bank of India, Soccer XI, Kenkre under-19, Companeroes S.C (A) and Central Railway (MD).
Kenkre U-19 are second on the table with four points from two matches, having won their opening match against Young Boys by 3-1 and recording a 1-1 against Companeroes. The other teams to have played twice already are Young Boys, who have suffered two straight defeats in their opening two group-stage matches. After stumbling to a (3-1) loss to Kenkre under-19, Young Boys were defeated by a comprehensive scoreline of 4-0 by H.D.F.C.
The Young Boys currently sit rock-bottom and with nine matches in-hand to turn their season around. Bank of India have begun their season on a high is currently sitting two points ahead of Kenkre under-19 on the first place, winning two out of two games, a big 6-1 win over Central Railway (MD) and other narrow 1-0 win against Chheda Nagar.
In the other group A game, St. Sebastian recorded a 5-1 thumping win over Soccer XI as five different scorers scored in the win; Axel Peters, Troy Nunes, Allan Nunes, Dalton Wilson and Umesh Kamble were the players on the scoresheet.
HDFC is also the team that has been promoted to Super Division as Runners-up from Division 1 of last season 2015-16.
Group ‘B’
Group B of the MDFA Super Division comprises of 11 teams: Income Tax, R.B.I. S.C, State Bank of India, Mumbai Strikers, G.M.S.C, Century Rayon, Mumbai Muslim, Springfields F.C, Fr. Agnel Gymkhana, Sellebrity F.C and Dena Bank.
In the opening match of group B, Income Tax entertained Reserve Bank of India S.C in a 2-2 draw. While, State Bank of India were narrowly beaten by Mumbai Striker with a 2-1 score-line; Dena Bank got to a disappointing start, as they suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to the hands of Century Rayon; Worchuipei Kashuing hat-trick and a Niyaz Patel strike separated the two sides at the full-time whistle.
Mumbai Muslims started their journey with a 2-2 draw against Springfields. The latter got their campaign’s first win against Sellebrity, defeating them by 3-1. Sellebrity, meanwhile, captured their first-3 points against a resolute Fr. Agnel Gymkhana side with a nail-biting 3-2 win.
Group ‘C’
Group C of the MDFA Super Division comprises of 11 teams: Millat F.C (A), Central Railway, D’Assisi S.C, Salcette F.C, Serco F.C, Air India under-19, Mumbai F.C Colts under-19, Rhema Sports Foundation (A), West Zone United and Bombay Gymkhana.
Central Railway (H) and Bombay Gymkhana are yet to kick-start their Super Division campaigns; they go head-to-head in a season opener for either side on 25th November, 2016.
Amongst the four sides, who registered wins in the first-round of matches, Mumbai F.C Colts under-19 wrote the headlines with a 7-1 thumping of Rhema Sports Foundation (A); Vinil Poojary scored a hat-trick as Yogesh Kadam added a brace, Faiz Khan and Umesh Perambra also got their names on the scoresheet. Meanwhile, Salcette F.C scratched a narrow 2-1 victory over Millat F.C (A). Also, Air India under-19 got their campaign up-and-running with a dominating performance against West Zone United, resulting in a 3-0 win.
