JSW Steel win 5-1, Carmelites and Atlanta draw 1-1

Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA), 16 November 2016: Carmelites hosted Atlanta Football Club in their Division 1 group ‘B’ match. While We Care Football Club featured against J.S.W Steel in Division 2 group ‘E’.

As Elvis Nunes blew the full-time whistle, Carmelites and Atlanta shared a point apiece; Alex Fernandes’ first-half strike was neutralized by Atlanta’s Oliver D’Mello goal late into the second-half.

In Division 1, as Atlanta hosted Carmelites, both sides had come into the game on a high, having been undefeated. While a draw didn’t affect Carmelites much, Atlanta who now has three wins and two draws, have lagged a bit behind with a draw today. Neither side was able to work themselves through in the final third, as both goals at either end came result of errors at the back.

We Care stumbled to a heavy defeat against J.S.W, who marched to a resounding 5-1 victory. Mohit Thakural’s goal for We Care around the hour mark on 61 minutes proved to be mear consolation as an early strike inside 10 minutes from J.S.W’s Firoz Shah to open the scoring, with his side up by two goals at the half-time break. J.S.W carried the momentum into the second-half, scoring twice in 6 minutes – on minute 47 and 53 through Rahul Yadav and Dilip Sahani. Coach Sumeet’s J.S.W went further clear, as Virendra Rautela’s strike on 56 minutes helped put the tie to bed.

For J.S.W, the result proved to be a vital one, as they gathered momentum going into the tougher end of the group stage, as We Care F.C lagged behind once again with their season coming to a closure after today’s full-time result.
