Gaurang Chavan’s hattrick sinks Sterling FA.

In the first game of the day Velankanni boys secured all three points on a rainy outing against Sterling FA. From the onset of the game Velankanni looked to attack Sterling and managed to do so and made flurry of attack on Sterling. Velankanni’s were helped to a extent by sterling FA’s goalkeeper who had many anxious moments but managed not to concede in the first half hour of the play. Velankannni boys saw many of their shots sail over the bar or across the face of the goal or scraped the woodwork all these events looked like it was not to be Velankanni’s day but a 38th minute penalty by Clifton Colaso gave velankanni the lead they desrved. It was only a minute passed by after the first goal and Gaurang Chavan scored the second to double the lead going into the half time break.

Play resumed after the break and in the 42nd minute Gaurang put the third one in and gave Velankanni a unassailable lead of 3-0. from here on Velankanni looked a relaxed team but a occasional slip ups made them nervous. in the 56th minute Arnold Rebello was shown a straight red card for stamping the Sterling number 10 Aftab Sayed, a completely unnecessary challenge given the fact that his team was leading comfortably. 10 minutes later Gaurang sent a long ranger in to complete his hattrick and give Velankanni a 4-0 lead. 10 men Velankanni were holding their fort to have clean sheet, the team went down to 9 men briefly owing to cramps to Velankanni’s stopper Mendonca. Taking the numerical advantage over Velankanni, Sterling FA launched a few attacks and finally Hardik Chomal got a consolation for the Sterling lads in 71st minute. there after Velankanni regrouped to assure the scoreline did not have many changes.

Velankanni Boys 4-1 Sterling FA

(Clifton COlaso (P) 38′,  Gaurang Chavan 39′, 42′, 67′) (Hardik Chomal 71′)
